Dance Club tops hip hop competition
By Rhojani Nasiad
SSAM’s high school Dance Club took home the much-coveted championship trophy and pocketed P7,000 in an inter-school street dance competition held at the UP School of Economics Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City last September 17.
Dance Club members Iya De Leon, Meg Damatac, Thea Dela Paz, Kaye Echavez, Clarice Aquino, Ninna Sonico, Janelle Dilao, Vea Joven, and Tammie Pacquing
were adjudged champions in a dance contest aptly dubbed “BEAT IV: Youth, Break Free” organized by the UP Organization of Economics Majors.
According to the dance club members, they were only given few weeks to practice for this competition. At first, they thought they would never make it because of complex choreography, tight practices and academic requirements.
“Nung una, kinabahan kami kasi baka di namin kayanin. Wala rin naman kaming choreographer. Talagang sariling tiyaga. Nung medyo malapit na yung contest parang gusto na naming mag-back out kasi hindi pa kami tapos at kinakailangan pa ng matinding practice para ma-perfect ang steps. Pero napagaan ang loob namin nang sabihin ni Mama Del (Ms. Ingrid Delfino) na buong puso siyang naniniwalang kakayanin naming ang laban. Kaya hindi rin naming siya binigo,” third year student Meg Damatac said.
Dance Club moderator Mrs.Ingrid Delfino was very proud of her students because they showed their patience and determination for this competition.
Other winners were Holy Infant Montessori Center (1st runner up), St. Vincent Academy Antipolo (2nd runner up), Holy Spirit National High School (3rd runner up) and Arellano University Plaridel (4th runner up).
The champion group received free dance sessions from Talents Workshop Hub, gift packs from Enervon, copies of Fitness Magazine and gift certificates from Netopia.
