Sister Roseve celebrates feast
day by helping typhoon victims
By Lisette Manliclic

School Directress Sister Ma. Roseve Balagat, OSB had nothing more to say but meaningful words of gratitude to the SSAM constituents in a simple celebration of her feast day at the Sister Irmburg Covered Court last October 7, 2011.

The institutional mass was attended by the Benedictine Sisters, and Mother Mary John Mananzan, OSB, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute of Women’s Studies.

The homily highlighted the significance of celebrating the Month of the Holy Rosary, and the ways to encourage other people to develop the habit of praying.

After the oath-taking ceremony for the alumni association officers, selected students from the grade school and high school departments rendered their special and creative performances for the directress.

This year, the feast day of Sister Roseve turned into a charity as students gladly offered their donations such as canned goods, school supplies, clothes and rice to the victims of two typhoons, Pedring and Quiel, that devastated parts of Northern Luzon and Metro Manila.

Other students brought plants to express their full support to the community’s environmental projects and campaigns.

Sister Roseve introduced the Green Growing Edge in SSAM to inculcate
in the minds of the young and old to preserve and protect Mother Earth. Up to this day, she has been calling for the support of student leaders who can effectively empower the youth towards sustainable development.

Being an environment-friendly school, SSAM observes segregation of wastes, campaigns for reuse, reduce and recycle, and conducts tree planting activities.
