Induction Message of the PTA President

Sister Ma. Roseve Balagat OSB, Sister Lydia Villegas OSB, Sister Alexis Lamarroza, OSB, the Benedictine sisters, members of the faculty, newly elected officers and members of the PTA, parent section representatives, fellow parents and guardians, a pleasant afternoon.

A few days ago, I was contemplating on what I should say to all of you. To be honest, two days ago, I didn’t know what to say. In my moment of silence, I prayed. And when I woke up yesterday, I told myself that I should speak from the heart. So what does my heart want to tell all of you?

First, I would like to thank all of you for coming, particularly the new Parent Section Representatives or PSRs. You actually have a choice to attend or not to attend but you opted to be here and be one with us in accepting a new role – that is, to be the voice of the other parents of our respective sections or levels. Your presence today is a good indication of your interest and commitment.

I would also like to express my sincerest appreciation to all of you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your PTA President. This opportunity could not have come in a much better time because this school year, my daughter will be graduating from Year 4. As my daughter prepares to graduate, I want her to be proud of me, not just for being president, but for having this wonderful opportunity to take an active part in this community where teachers and parents work hand in hand for the improvement of the quality of education and welfare of all our daughters.

Second, the experience of serving as Vice-President in the previous PTA Board headed by Ms. Ethel Nepomuceno was probably the best preparation for this task. And I owe that PTA Board a lot. I have been PSR and Board Member before, but my experience with the previous Board has taught me that cooperation and camaraderie can achieve more. With cooperation among us, 1 + 1 became more than 2. And with camaraderie, even the most difficult task became enjoyable and fun with such a wonderful company. And so to the previous PTA Board, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Third, and I have been thinking about this a lot. That previous Board’s achievements and the fun we had? Those are not easy to attain. But because the previous Board has expressed full support for this new Board, I am confident we can have fun again in making 1 + 1 more than 2. I remember an e-mail sent in the PTA Board e-group by an officer of the previous Board, and the message really made an impact on me. I quote: “In Aileen's case, she doesn't need the same team, when she can have a better and bigger team if she can count on all our support, in addition to the support of her new team. We don't have to be in the Board to contribute and get involved with the community that moulds our daughters' education.” And so my dear parents, I am honored and delighted to have the support of the previous Board, and at the same time excited to work with them again, together with the new Officers and Board Members.

Fourth, I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep. My goal is to significantly contribute to the improvement of our daughters’ quality of education and welfare. How to achieve that goal – that is where I need your help. And so when it comes to my plans for this school year, I think the immediate step is to develop project ideas together with all of you.

This month, the PTA Board and the previous PTA Board will be having a workshop to discuss our plans and projects for this school year. I would also like all of you to participate. We will be setting up an email address very soon where you can send your ideas, feedback, comments and suggestions. We will be informing you where to send your feedback through your daughters’ N1. I hope you can all use this opportunity to regularly communicate with us. Alternatively, you can also approach any of us for feedback.

Lastly, I know that this is a volunteer job, but when one agrees to take on this responsibility, it becomes a commitment. I hope that we will help each other in realizing the goals that we will set. Do not hesitate to get involved more than just attending meetings. If you think you can help, if you know deep in your heart that you want to get involved, if you have a desire to contribute, please let us know. Being here is an important indication of your commitment. Together, let us take it a step further, let us work together.

Salamat, magandang hapon po sa inyong lahat.
